Special Waste

The following special materials cannot be recycled through the curbside program or at the public drop-off
containers and require special disposal methods

Tires Fluorescent light bulbs
Tires may be taken to the Des Moines County Regional Landfill
for recycling. Fees for tires without rims are:
Fluorescent lights require special handling due to the presence of mercury. To arrange disposal, contact one of the following:

Plastic bags LP (liquid propane) containers
The following grocery and discount stores take back plastic bags for recycling: Empty refillable containers (like those used in gas grills) can be brought to Area Recyclers during their regular business hours:
In Burlington – Hy-Vee stores on Angular and Agency
In West Burlington – Wal-Mart
In Mount Pleasant – Wal-Mart and Hy-Vee
Scrap metal Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
"There are local businesses who accept scrap metal for recycling, even pay for it. Look in the phone book under "Scrap Metals Processing & Recycling" Please bring canisters around the side of the building to the appliance drop-off area. Don't leave them in the public drop-off containers. Small non-refillable LP containers are not recyclable and should be placed in the trash.
